Mustard fish curry recipe with detailed instructions and video
Many fish recipes are made in India but one of them is mustard fish curry. This mustard fish recipe is mostly liked in West Bengal. It is made with mustard seeds, cumin, coriander along with tomatoes and other spices.
Mustard fish is made in two ways, you can make the fish without frying or fry the fish in a little oil and cook it in gravy. Its taste is also different from all fish recipes. So let's know how to make it.......

PREPARATION - METHOD
- First of all, Put salt to the fish and clean it well two-three times with water
- After washing, take it out in a plate, add one teaspoon turmeric powder, one teaspoon salt and mix it well
- Now prepare the mustard masala paste. Put garlic, ginger, green chili, cumin, mustard seeds, coriander, black pepper and 2 tbsp of water in a grinder jar. Grind into fine paste
- Put chopped tomatoes in same grinder jar. Grind into puree
GRAVY PREPARATION
- Add 1 teasp of turmeric powder and 1 teasp salt in cleaned fish. Mix all well
- Heat 4-5 tbsp mustard oil in the pan. After the oil is hot, Put fish one by one. Fry fish for 1-2 mins on medium flame then flip another side. Fry both side till golden brown
- Fry all fish pieces like this in batches. Take out the roasted fish in a plate
- Add 3 tablespoons of oil in another pan. Add bay leaves and finely chopped onion, fry till golden brown.
- Add the prepared mustard paste and cook it for 1 to 2 minutes. Add tomato puree along with red chili powder, turmeric powder, kashmiri red chilli powder and salt. Close lid, Cook for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Add 1 cup of water, mix everything well. Let it boil, After the gravy comes to boil, add fried fish pieces in gravy. Lastly add garam masala, Mix everything well. Close lid, Cook on low flame for 2 to 3 minutes
- Mustard fish curry is ready to serve
- Serve with hot rice or roti, chapati
